When is comes to fish, filtration is the key. You need to mach your pump, filter system and UV lights to the pond. Using a pump that is too big will push too much water through your filter and UV light and not allow them to do their job properly. Using a pump that is too small will not allow you to turn the water over in you pond enough. You should be turning over the water approximately once per hour, so if you have a 2000 litre pond, you need a pump rated for 2000 litres per hour. When adding filters and other accesories, you may need to up the size of the pump.
